Berry Street Education Model
The Berry Street Education Model (BSEM) is an evidence-based approach to teaching and learning that we are excited to implement in our school. This model is designed to support all students, especially those who may have experienced trauma or challenges in their lives, helping them to thrive academically, emotionally and socially.
At its core, BSEM focuses on creating a positive, nurturing school environment that promotes student engagement, wellbeing and academic success. The model is based on five key domains: Body, Relationship, Stamina, Engagement and Character.
In the Body domain, students are taught strategies to regulate their emotions and manage stress, helping them feel calm and ready to learn. The Relationship domain focuses on building strong, positive connections between students, teachers and peers, creating a supportive community within the school.
Stamina helps students develop resilience and persistence, essential skills for overcoming challenges and achieving long-term goals. The Engagement domain uses evidence-based teaching strategies to increase student participation and enthusiasm for learning. Finally, the Character domain helps students identify their strengths and values, fostering a positive self-image and sense of purpose.
