Vision & Values

The Valkstone Primary School vision statement: “We are curious learners, preparing ourselves to thrive in tomorrow’s world” encapsulates our forward-thinking approach to education.
The use of “We” is intentional, encompassing the entire school community – students, teachers, staff, and even parents. This inclusive language emphasises that learning is a collaborative journey involving all stakeholders, not just students.
“Curious learners” highlights our school’s focus on fostering inquisitiveness and a love for learning. It suggests an environment that encourages questioning, exploration and discovery.
“Preparing ourselves” reinforces the active role everyone plays in the learning process. It implies that education is not something passively received, but actively pursued and constructed.
“To thrive in tomorrow’s world” acknowledges the rapidly changing nature of our society and the need to equip learners with skills and mindsets that will serve them well, whatever their future entails.
Our vision statement was designed to paint a picture of a dynamic, inclusive learning community that values curiosity, proactivity, and future-readiness.

After an extensive process of consultation during 2023 with our entire school community of students, families and staff, the Valkstone community settled on refreshing our school values to:

These four values are not of course the only things that we value here at Valkstone, but they embody what we do and how we do things.
In addition to the values and descriptors above, throughout 2024 the staff community also developed a matrix showing how these values are demonstrated within the school environment, in outside spaces, learning spaces, the wider community and in the digital world. It moves the ideas of school values from ‘big picture thinking’ to practical examples for students of the things that they will see, do and hear around the school. We also have a number of things that are considered non-negotiables at Valkstone Primary School, which are also included with the Values Matrix. This matrix will be shared with students via a soft-launch in Term 4 2024 and will form the cornerstone of classroom practices from the beginning of the 2025 school year.
